At the Sussex Cancer Fund, we often talk about funding equipment, research and patient support services. But sometimes, it’s the smaller everyday things that can have a surprisingly big impact on the people who care for patients every single day.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have recently been able to provide a new microwave for the staff kitchen at the Sussex Cancer Centre.

It may sound simple, but for the incredible nurses, doctors, radiographers, healthcare assistants and support teams working long and demanding days in cancer care, having somewhere to warm up a meal and take a proper break really matters.

Cancer services are incredibly busy. Staff often spend hours supporting patients and families through difficult appointments, treatments and emotional moments. Finding even a few minutes to pause, sit down and recharge can make a real difference to wellbeing during a long shift.

Having a comfortable staff space with basic facilities helps create those important moments of normality and comfort. Whether it’s a warm lunch during a hectic clinic, a quick cup of soup between appointments, or simply a chance to step away for ten minutes, these small things help staff continue giving the very best care to local people living with cancer.

At Sussex Cancer Fund, we believe caring for the people who care for others is important too.

This is exactly why community support matters so much. Donations raised here in Sussex help us fund projects big and small across local cancer services, from specialist medical equipment and pioneering research, to patient comfort items and improvements to staff wellbeing spaces.

Every act of kindness helps make the cancer journey more bearable for everyone involved.

To our supporters, fundraisers, volunteers and donors, thank you. Your generosity continues to make a real and lasting difference across Sussex cancer services every day.
