Gary Tarrant is raising money for the Sussex Cancer Fund by running the ASICS Windermere Marathon on 22nd May, to say thanks for the treatment received by his wife Cath. The race itself is said to be one of the most breathtaking UK marathons, a 26.2 mile anti-clockwise circuit of Windermere, taking in Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside along the way. Over half the course is run on partially traffic-free roads or roads with a dedicated running lane, taking in the beautiful views.
Gary’s Story
My wife, Cath, was diagnosed last June with triple-positive breast cancer and started her treatment at the Sussex Cancer Centre in July 2021. It was a scary time starting chemotherapy and as the rounds went on it took more and more toil on her body. I work for myself and so it has been financially challenging at times with the time off work I have had to take for appointments and taking care of the rest of the family.
Having the free car park right opposite the Sussex Cancer Centre has meant we have always had somewhere to park and not had to worry about where to park after an hour’s journey to get to the hospital. You wouldn’t believe the way this has taken the stress out of arriving for treatments. We are really grateful for this provision and so I wanted to use my marathon to raise some money for this and all the other amazing things you do through the Sussex Cancer Fund.
