We’re recruiting a Charity Director at Sussex Cancer Fund

Help shape our future and make a lasting difference to people affected by cancer across Sussex.

Sussex Cancer Fund is looking for an inspiring, people-focused Charity Director to lead our small, committed team through the next stage of our development.

Working alongside NHS cancer services and local partners, we fund patient support, high-quality cancer research, specialist equipment and improvements to treatment environments. We have ambitious plans to extend our reach across Sussex, strengthen our partnerships and build a sustainable future for our work.

The role at a glance

• Salary: £58,000–£62,000 per annum, full-time equivalent, depending on experience
• Hours: Minimum four days per week
• Location: Brighton, with hybrid and flexible working, a minimum of two days per week in the office and regular travel across Sussex
• Contract: Permanent
• Closing date: Friday 16 October 2026 at 5pm

About the role

As our most senior member of staff, you will work closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees to turn our strategy into practical action.

You will lead and develop our team, oversee our Patient Services and Research programmes, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals, researchers, supporters and partner organisations. You will also provide organisational, financial and governance oversight, helping ensure our ambitions are supported by the resources and processes needed to deliver them.

This is a varied role within a small charity, combining strategic leadership with a willingness to get involved in day-to-day delivery.

About you

You will be a supportive leader and confident relationship builder, with experience of developing people, setting clear priorities and getting things done.

We are looking for someone who is organised, collaborative and pragmatic, with sound judgement, financial awareness and a strong commitment to improving the experience of people affected by cancer.

Experience in the charity or healthcare sectors would be valuable, but it is not essential. We welcome candidates from different backgrounds who can bring the leadership, people skills and energy to help take Sussex Cancer Fund forward.
