Sussex Cancer Fund is delighted to announce that our film Not Just a Story has been entered into the Smiley Charity Film Awards 2026, the world’s leading platform celebrating films created for social good. We are now calling on the public to cast their vote and help shine a light on the importance of local cancer support across Sussex.

Our short film Not Just a Story shares Jos’s personal experience of facing cancer and the impact of the support available in our local community. Her story represents the voices of so many people affected by cancer in Sussex and highlights why the services we help fund are so vital.

“We’re incredibly proud to be part of the Smiley Charity Film Awards,” said Lou Scott, Sussex Cancer Fund Trustee.
“Not Just a Story is an honest and heartfelt film that reflects the experiences of many people across Sussex. We would love for our community to get behind us by watching, voting, and sharing the film. Every vote helps raise awareness of the support that makes such a difference to patients and their families.”

Now in its ninth year, the Smiley Charity Film Awards brings together charities, creatives, and community organisations to celebrate powerful storytelling and the positive impact it inspires. Previous hosts have included Lisa Snowdon and Tom Allen, with judges and attendees representing major creative and humanitarian organisations.
