During the ‘Love Your Local Cancer Charity Will Writing’ campaign you will receive a professional consultation and a new, or updated Will, from one of our local solicitors free of charge. Our free Will service is for anyone aged 55, or over and covers the cost of a simple Will. In return, we ask that you make a small donation to Sussex Cancer Fund. The campaign runs from 1st February to 28th February 2018.
Making a Will and keeping it up to date is one of the most important things you can do, ensuring your wishes are known and your money and possessions go to who you choose. Yet many of us just simply never get around to doing it.
How Love Your Local Cancer Charity Will Writing works:
1. You get in touch directly with the solicitor of your choice from the list provided and arrange an appointment during the campaign period.
2. At the initial meeting, you explain what you want by telling the solicitor what assets you have, and who you want to benefit from your Will. The solicitor will tell you if it can be done as a “basic” or standard Will. If what you need requires specialist advice, the solicitor will tell you what can be included under the scheme and give you a separate price for any additional work. All solicitors reserve the right to charge you a fee if your Will is not considered “basic”.
3. The solicitor will tell you how much the firm would normally have charged for preparing the Will. The average cost of this service is £250-300 plus VAT. You will be given a Sussex Cancer Fund donation form to complete and asked to make a donation that reflects the time and effort that the solicitor has given. We would like to suggest a minimum donation of £50 for a basic Will and £100 for mirror Wills, but clearly there is no limit as to how much you wish to donate.
4. There is no obligation whatsoever to include a gift to Sussex Cancer Fund in your Will. The solicitors will however, be able to advise you about the tax advantages of gifts to charities in Wills. We hope, if it’s possible for you to do so, you may consider us.
