Saturday 13th March saw the first inaugural Cancer Research Showcase organised by students from the Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS). The students were from the Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care (OHP) Society, a student-led society at the Medical School. While the event was celebrating and demonstrating what the impact of making a donation has on overall cancer research projects the society chose the Sussex Cancer Fund as their beneficiary for their fundraising efforts.

The event brought together a range of research fellows to talk about their projects, covering topics like Pancreatic Cancer, Breast Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Brain Cancer through to Leukaemia.

The event also had a discussion with Dr Richard Simcock and patient educator Anna Potts, which was an open and frank look at cancer treatment from the patients view and how research fits into treatment. 17 research studies went into forming Anna’s own treatment protocol demonstrating the realtime impact of research and how important it is that we continue to support it.
