New funding window for small research projects open now

Small Projects Fund: Supporting Clinical Excellence in Sussex

At the Sussex Cancer Fund, we’re dedicated to enhancing the quality of clinical services and improving patient care. One of the key ways we do this is through our Small Projects Fund, which is available to healthcare professionals who are passionate about making a difference in patient treatments and care.

What is the Small Projects Fund?

Our Small Projects Fund is designed for initiatives that can deliver tangible results within two years. The fund is open to applications from doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals (AHPs) who are committed to advancing clinical practices. We believe that even small-scale projects can have a big impact, and this fund is here to support those projects.

What Kind of Projects Do We Support?

The Small Projects Fund is flexible and can support a variety of initiatives, including:

  • Supplementary Funding: Sometimes, projects that have already secured significant funding from other research bodies need a little extra support. Whether it’s for additional consumables or other necessary resources, our fund can provide the supplementary funding needed to see these projects through to completion. Importantly, these projects must have undergone a rigorous peer review process and demonstrate a clear benefit to patients.
  • Pump Priming: We also offer pump-priming funds to help get promising new ideas off the ground. This funding is for proof of concept research that has the potential to secure further funding if the initial results are promising. This is a crucial step in turning innovative ideas into reality, and we are here to help make that happen.

How to Apply

To apply, your project must have the backing of senior clinical leads in a Sussex-based hospital trust or senior research leaders. We want to ensure that all projects we support have the potential to make a real difference in patient care.

Applications should be received by midnight on the 20th of September 2024. All applications will then be assessed by the SCF Research Committee in consultation with independent medical experts based in Sussex. We aim to confirm which projects have been successful by 20th October 2024, dependant on the number of applications received.
