Meet the Sussex Cancer Fund team

David has a long-standing connection with the Sussex Cancer Centre, having worked in various departments including First Contact, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. His experience has given him deep insight into the realities faced by patients and staff alike. As a Trustee, he brings local knowledge, empathy and a passion for community engagement. David thrives on building relationships and enjoys championing the charity in the community. Outside of his work, David sings with a local choir and loves walking his two Miniature Schnauzers along the Sussex coast.

Tina is a focused and very passionate individual who strives to really make a difference to people’s lives.  Her strengths lie in building relationships within communities and bringing people together in an exciting and meaningful way. Her previous experience within the charity sector has set precedents and her proudest moments have been the funding she raised to enable the children of Sussex to have a better quality of life.  As well as this, she helped build a hugely successful youth football club and masterminded the biggest girls football tournament in the UK.

Tina has a deep connection with the charity after receiving treatment herself in 2018. Her mission and determination is to ensure the charity can continue to provide vital services to others, if and when they ever need it.

In her downtime, Tina love’s being with her family and friends as well as attending concerts and festivals when possible !

Joanna joined the Sussex Cancer Fund in 2019 and leads on marketing and communications. A Chartered Marketer with over 20 years’ experience, she brings expertise across digital, PR, brand, and events. Her personal connection to the cause, through friends and family affected by cancer, fuels her commitment. Joanna is passionate about helping the charity connect with supporters and share its story. She’s always keen to hear from anyone wanting to get involved. When not working, Joanna enjoys coastal walks, a good cup of tea, and creating Canva designs.

Sarah joined the Sussex Cancer Fund in March 2025, bringing over 25 years of experience from her time at American Express, where she shaped talent and learning strategies across Europe. With a background in coaching, people development and strategic planning, she brings insight into empowering individuals and teams. Sarah’s personal motivation to support those affected by cancer led her to volunteer before becoming a member of the team. She’s passionate about helping the charity grow its impact and reach. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys pottery and pilates, time with family, and contributing to causes close to her heart.

Dr Bloomfield trained at The Middlesex Hospital London, and trained in Oncology at The Middlesex, Mount Vernon and The Royal Marsden Hospitals. He spent 2 years as an International Research Fellow at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto and studied Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. Clinically his site specialties are breast cancer, urology and testicular cancer. He has a long standing interest in improving treatments by involvement in clinical trials, and is Course Director for the Masters Programme in Oncology at the Institute of Cancer. The current challenge locally is to expand the infrastructure of the department to enable us to deliver modern treatment on time in pleasant surroundings. We are liaising closely with the Medical School to benefit from the changes taking place in the local hospitals and to ensure that the doctors of tomorrow have a sound understanding of the principles and importance of cancer management.

Neil is the Treasurer of the Sussex Cancer Fund, where he ensures strong financial oversight and strategic resource allocation. A senior finance professional with experience across sectors, he currently serves as Finance Director at Portsmouth Historic Quarter Trust. Neil’s expertise spans business strategy, governance and risk management. Motivated by a desire to give back, he values the tangible impact the charity makes locally. Outside of work, Neil enjoys staying active, spending time with family, and exploring the Sussex countryside.

Lou is an experienced charity leader with a background in income generation, partnerships, and team development. Formerly Deputy CEO at Grief Encounter, she has led fundraising and strategic initiatives across health, youth, and community organisations for over 25 years. Her focus is on building sustainable income and fostering values-led cultures. Lou’s connection to SCF is deeply personal—her sister received support from the charity. She brings fundraising, governance, and leadership expertise to help strengthen the charity’s resilience. Lou loves travel, live music, running, and discovering small charities doing big things.

Moira joined the Sussex Cancer Fund as a Trustee in 2025 following her retirement as a solicitor specialising in charity law and governance. A cancer survivor herself, with personal loss due to cancer in her family, the cause is close to her heart. Moira keeps a close eye on the charity’s governance and supports its fundraising efforts, particularly in the area of medical research. Her extensive legal knowledge and passion for good governance are invaluable to the Board.

Erica is a senior public sector leader with over 20 years’ experience as a barrister and regulator, advising organisations including the Department of Health, CQC and Mind. She brings significant legal, governance and advocacy expertise to her role as Trustee. A Sussex resident for 15 years, Erica was drawn to the charity after her own diagnosis of sarcoma. Living with the reality of recurrence, she is deeply committed to improving cancer support and care in the region. Outside of work, Erica is a mother, keen hiker, and regular at the gym.
