Sussex Cancer Fund Supports Mammography Teams at The Park Centre for Breast Care with New Technical Textbooks

The Sussex Cancer Fund is pleased to announce the donation of a collection of up-to-date technical reference books to the mammography imaging teams at The Park Centre for Breast Care (PCBC), Brighton. This important investment, totalling just under £800, is aimed at enhancing continuing professional development (CPD), academic learning, and ultimately, patient care.
The newly acquired resources include leading titles such as:
- Clark’s Essential Guide to Mammography
- Fundamentals of Mammography
- Digital Mammography: A Holistic Approach
- The Breast: Comprehensive Management of Benign and Malignant Disease
- Principles of Radiographic Imaging
These textbooks will provide accessible, high-quality information for both trainees and experienced imaging staff. They are particularly valuable in supporting those undertaking Apprenticeships and Postgraduate awards, ensuring that the PCBC team remains equipped with the latest knowledge in imaging techniques, breast pathology, and quality assurance.
Improved Patient Outcomes Through Knowledge Sharing
By having a diverse library of textbooks on-site at PCBC, the entire imaging team can refresh and broaden their knowledge of positioning, pathology and imaging protocols. This ensures that patients attending the centre for mammography and interventional procedures continue to receive care grounded in the most current best practice.

As one imaging lead explained in a recent training feedback session:
“Having these books to hand means we can look things up straight away – it’s a great support for our learning and confidence, especially when training newer team members. Ultimately, it helps us offer a better experience for patients.”
Breast Cancer in Sussex – The Importance of Screening
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women in the UK. In Sussex alone, thousands of women are screened each year, with early detection playing a crucial role in improving outcomes. According to NHS data, breast screening uptake in Sussex remains slightly below the national target of 70%, highlighting the importance of well-supported and knowledgeable teams who can deliver accurate and compassionate care.
Continuing Our Commitment
This initiative forms part of the Sussex Cancer Fund’s broader commitment to supporting cancer services across the region. By funding practical resources like these, the charity ensures that clinical teams can continue to deliver excellent, informed care, and that training and professional development are actively supported in the workplace.
