Spotlight on David Long: Taking on Tough Mudder for the Sussex Cancer Fund

At the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, we are fortunate to have dedicated individuals like David Long, a Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Scheduler at the Sussex Cancer Centre. David’s role is crucial, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective cancer treatments. But his commitment to the cause doesn’t stop there. David has decided to push himself further by taking on the Tough Mudder London South 2024 challenge on 21 September 2024, all in support of the Sussex Cancer Fund.

David’s decision to participate in this grueling event stems from a deeply personal connection to help people being treated for cancer. As he shares in his own words:

“What better cause than the dreaded C word that touches ALL of us in one way or another. Whether it be a friend, partner, loved one or family member…or all of the above. It affects us all. I’m simply trying to do my tiny little part in such a grand scheme of things in a battle that people are fighting day in day out.”

David is undertaking this challenge in memory of two very special people in his life. He writes:

“I am doing this challenge in memory of 2 people. Justin, simply the most special person I had in my life for nowhere near long enough. He was so special to so many people and endlessly loved by everyone he met. Also in memory of my partner’s mother who was loved and cherished by many who we sadly lost 4 months ago. And this is just 2 people this thing has taken from us.”

The Sussex Cancer Fund is deeply grateful for David’s extraordinary efforts, as well as to all those who have supported him so far. Every donation, no matter the size, helps us to continue our work alongside the NHS, providing essential services, specialist equipment, and supporting cancer research. David’s determination to make a difference is a powerful reminder of how we can all contribute to the fight against cancer.

We invite you to support David on this incredible journey by visiting his JustGiving page and making a donation. Your support not only honours the memories of those who have been lost but also ensures that the Sussex Cancer Fund can continue to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients across Sussex.
