One of our supporters and her husband from Shoreham-by-Sea has been raising money through growing and selling plants for the Sussex Cancer Fund. They have been selling plants from their front garden to raise funds for some time but the COVID lockdown has enabled the couple to focus more on growing and cultivating plants that have been snapped up by local residents, who have seen their plants while out taking their daily exercise. The plants are being sold while adhering to strict social distancing rules and have proved very popular in a time when access to shops is limited and we are all spending more time at home in our gardens.
The plant sales have raised enough to purchase a new chemotherapy chair, to provide more comfort for patients who could be receiving treatment for many hours at a time.
Since March they have used over a 1000 flower pots and over 1250 litres of compost, and all the plants have been cultivated from their own garden plants and seeds. Both have received treatment for cancer in Sussex in the past and felt this was a good way to give back to the people that helped them while doing something they love. It has also brought a great deal of pleasure to all those that have bought plants.
The Sussex Cancer Fund would like to thank them both for their hard work, and to all those that have bought plants too.
