We are delighted that Stephen Bass, Lead Clinical Nurse for Palliative & EOLC at the Royal Sussex County Hospital is running the Virtual London Marathon for the Sussex Cancer Fund.
Steve had a place at this year’s London Marathon which he was very excited about taking part in but while it won’t be the same Steve still wanted to support the Sussex Cancer Fund and is now taking part in their virtual event, which will see Steve running his own route across the South Downs on the 4th October.
We asked Steve about his event: Steve said ”
“ When asked why do you run? my response is always to get more time outside amongst the trees and downs.
I have grown up in Sussex ‘with the chalk beneath my feet’ therefore it is the place I feel most connected to.
I’m not a fast runner and am not interested in personal bests and times, I usually run with a vague destination in mind or ‘codiwomple’ as it is known in old English.
I fear my ankles and knees are no longer the youthful shock absorbers they once were! So the opportunity to run for SCF and run the London Marathon was an opportunity not to be missed before middle ageing truly sets in. To now run my own marathon on the Southdowns instead will be truly awesome.
If you want to sponsor me too, that would make the run perfect! ”
Good luck and thank you Steve, and you can follow Steve and his training progress on social media just search for lumpyeggbass or #runBassyrun. Please also show your support to Steve by donating through his Just Giving page if you can.
