We would like to say a massive thank you to Emma Chaplin and Charlotte Linehan and their families who have purchased much-needed equipment for the cancer ward – Level 8 Courtyard at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
The money was raised in memory of their mum Jackie Bishop who was herself a great fundraiser. Jackie lost her husband Ron in 2011 and following his death organised various fundraising events including cream teas as a thank you for the care he received.
Emma, Charlotte, and their brothers, George and Andrew thought that in light of their mum’s great fundraising efforts it would be fitting to ask for memorial donations for Sussex Cancer Fund and more specifically for the ward which treated Jackie with so much care.
The money raised allowed Sussex Cancer Fund to buy three tub chairs, 5 nebulisers, 5 heat pads and a fridge for Level 8 Courtyard.
Emma Chaplin said ” I phoned Zingy Thetho – Ward Manager to see what the ward most needed. She suggested a fridge/freezer for patients to use. There was nowhere for patients to keep their own food fresh. Zingy would also have to walk down two flights of stairs to get ice lollies, a much-needed form of refreshment when patients are having difficulty eating. While the other equipment had a much more obvious need the fridge was a small touch that we hope has made a big difference “
Carrying on in the fundraising tradition, Grandson Jack has decided to hold his own event in memory of his Grandmother. With the money, she left Jack, he bought his dream item, a ride on train. Now set up in their garden in Seaford, Jack is holding a family and friends day and charging guests for a ride on his magnificent train. Jackie’s other grandchildren Molly, Amelia, and George will all be supporting on the day with selling tickets and running other stalls.
Thank you once again to Emma and Charlotte and to everyone that supported and donated.
