Effective governance standards are central to the operation of the Sussex Cancer Fund, and we seek to continuously improve on the following:

* Having a clear strategy and annual business plan/ budget.

* A strong Trustee Board driven risk assessment and mitigation process – achieved through pro-active assessment and early identification of emerging risks – through all trustees and employees being encouraged to ‘raise a red flag’ if any doubts or concerns arise.

* Effective policies and procedures, regularly reviewed to ensure these continue to be fit for purpose and ensuring appropriate supervision to ensure these are effectively operating.

* Renewal of Trustees – this has been successfully achieved in the last 3 years – and we will further strengthen the Trustee team in 2025 on clinician/ medical side and in the governance area to ensure continuous improvement in governance practice

* Strong control processes for research projects submission, assessment and tracking of outcomes and benefits.

* Part time staff only – (this year will be 4) – the leadership team are all volunteers as trustees. No expensive CEO’s, Finance Directors, etc and so we maximise patient and cancer research related investments and minimise administration costs.
