Dr Joanna Stokoe MRCP FRCR MD, Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Sussex Cancer Centre is swimming the length of Lake Windermere to raise money for Sussex Cancer Fund.
On September 1st, Jo will be swimming the 11 miles from Fell Foot to Brathay Hall. She will be attempting this notorious cold water swim without a wetsuit.
Good Luck and thank you, Jo, from the Sussex Cancer Fund!
A Message from Jo
I’ve been training hard for some months now to take on this big challenge on 1st September.
The swim is 11 miles in cold-ish water (15-16C) from Fell Foot (at the bottom) to Brathay Hall (at the top) of Lake Windermere. I will be just in my swimming cossie (no wetsuit!) and will have a paddler to guide and feed me on the way. The plan is not to stop and it will take me many hours.
On August 4th, I completed the Henley Marathon 14K swim in 5 hours and now I will start tapering down to get ready for the big one!
The Sussex Cancer Fund supported me in my MD many years ago and continue to support patients and research in Sussex. Knowing I have your support will help keep me going when I’m cold and when my arms start to hurt lots….
Thank you, Jo xx
