One of our wonderful Dosimetrists, Kay Goddard is very kindly putting her creative talents to use to make beautiful art and gifts and selling them through her Etsy shop. What’s more, Kay is making a contribution from each sale to be donated to the Sussex Cancer Fund.
Kay’s Story
www.Coastalbourne.co.uk was born as an outlet for my creativity, benefiting Sussex Cancer Fund at the same time. As a dosimetrist (working out the radiotherapy doses at the cancer centre and making the patient immobilisation masks), “art” helps me relax from a very picky and protocol-led, stressful job.
It was Scribble Arts in Brighton that triggered my creativity by providing art for relaxation online classes for NHS staff during the beginning of the pandemic. When friends said they wanted to buy my work I had a good laugh, but actually, I create what I love and others have ended up enjoying it too.
A proportion of all sales is going to the Sussex Cancer Fund so why not? I know how much the SCF has helped our patients in radiotherapy in so many ways so it seems natural to support the charity. Being Sussex-based, it suits my general seaside theme of cards and pebble pictures and my love of where we live. I am in the process of producing Sussex-based Christmas cards as there are not enough, in my opinion! I love a good commission now, creating pop-up boxes with people’s favourite things, or painting their boat/bike, or following a wedding theme. It is early days for my Etsy shop, but I hope the charity(like my creativity) will benefit more and more as it grows.
