We need you! – Cafe Volunteers needed For Preston Park Breast Centre

Volunteer Café/Kiosk Assistant at Preston Park Clinic

Location: Preston Park Clinic, Brighton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm (flexible shifts available)
Reporting to: Café Manager and Volunteer Co-ordinator
Contact: Sarah Macdonald, volunteer.support@sussexcancerfund.co.uk

Role Overview
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run a small but vital café/kiosk at the Preston Park Clinic. This role goes beyond simply serving food and drinks; it is about providing a comforting and welcoming environment for patients and their families during a challenging time. Your warm presence, a listening ear, and a kind word can make a significant difference in someone’s day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Serve tea, coffee, and light refreshments with a smile, ensuring a friendly and approachable atmosphere.
  • Money Management: Handle cash and card transactions accurately, keeping track of daily takings and ensuring all sales are correctly recorded.
  • Patient Interaction: Engage with patients and visitors by offering a comforting word or listening ear. Your friendly connection is just as important as the refreshments we provide.
  • Supporting the Sussex Cancer Fund: Help raise awareness of the Sussex Cancer Fund’s work by sharing information with customers and encouraging donations where appropriate.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the Café Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure smooth café/kiosk operations, including stock management, cleanliness, and covering shifts as needed.

Important Information:

  • No On-Site Parking: Unfortunately, there is no parking available on site, so volunteers will need to consider alternative transportation options.
  • DBS Check Required: A full DBS check is required for this role to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients and visitors.

What We Offer:

  • Training and Support: You will receive training in food handling, money management, and customer service, with ongoing support from the Café Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Flexible Hours: We offer flexible shifts to fit your commitments but require reliability and consistency to maintain opening hours effectively.
  • A Meaningful Experience: Volunteering with us goes beyond making tea or coffee; you’ll join a compassionate team dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by cancer.

Why Volunteer with Us?
Volunteering at the Preston Park Clinic café/kiosk allows you to be a comforting presence for patients and families while playing a vital role in the café’s operations. Your efforts support the Sussex Cancer Fund’s mission by raising essential funds and awareness, directly impacting the lives of those we serve. In partnership with the NHS, we provide crucial equipment and services to improve the lives of cancer patients in Sussex and fund local cancer research to enhance understanding and outcomes.

If you are interested in joining our team and making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families, please contact Sarah Macdonald at info@sussexcancerfund.co.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!
